iDesign Master 2007 Mashup
What is this
The map above shows a mashup between different
Web2.0 services, such as
Flickr,
Google Maps and
YouTube. This page will show the one-year long experience of the students participating to the Master in I-Design at
Domus Academy, in Milan. This mashup simply aggregates contents having been uploaded on different social softwares tagged with the word
"idesign_da" and with the latitude and longitude coordinates.
Finally a PHP class exploit the different
APIs released by the Web Services to read the folksonomies and extracts only videos and pictures containing
"idesign_da" tag placing them on the map at the coordinates contained by the tags
geo:lon and
geo:lat.
How to
- If you don't have it, create your own account on Flickr and YouTube.
- Upload some pictures on Fickr' or some videos on YouTube using your own accounts.
- Open this page on the browser, zoom the map, choose the point you want to place the content, then click on the map. Into the form below the map will appear the folksonomy containing the tag "idesign_da" and the exact coordinates.
- Copy the folksonomy and paste it in the tag definition form of your content in Flickr' or Youtube, depending on which content you are uploading.
- The content will appear on the map, in the same place you have chosen. If you decide to move it in a second moment, just delete the old folksonomies and repeat the former step.

The
iDesign Master 2007 Mashup uses
GoogleMaps,
YouTube,
Flickr' APIs combined with
Mapstraction JavaScript Library,
phpFlickr and
class.youTube wrappers. The assemblage was made by David Boardman and the whole source code is available
here (212Kb).
Bugs
The PHP code serving this mashup application is an alphabetagamma release. If you notice some bugs, please write me an email to d- [-AT-] netzfunk.org with subject "Hey, your code sucks" or let's talking about it at Domus.
The loading-slowness of the page is not my fault, so please reclaim better API performances to Flickr.
